It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 6th European Biosensor Symposium (EBS-6), which will take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from 5 to 8 May 2027.

EBS is a biennial forum dedicated to the latest advances in biosensing science and technology. Since its first edition in Potsdam, Germany, in 2017, followed by Florence, Italy (2019), the online edition (2021), Aachen, Germany (2023), and Tarragona, Spain (2025), the symposium has brought together a vibrant community working at the interface of fundamental discovery, technological innovation, and real-world application. In 2027, EBS will come to Romania for the first time, opening a new chapter in the history of the symposium in Eastern Europe.

Biosensors are increasingly shaping the way we understand and monitor health, food quality, and the environment. By translating biological recognition into measurable analytical signals, they connect biological information with digital data and enable faster, more accessible, and more personalized decision-making. At the same time, the transition from promising laboratory concepts to robust, reliable, sensitive, and selective devices still requires major advances in biorecognition, immobilization strategies, transduction mechanisms, materials integration, data interpretation, and scalable fabrication.

EBS-6 will provide an open and stimulating environment to discuss these challenges and opportunities. The scientific programme will cover both fundamental and applied aspects of biosensor research, including advanced biorecognition elements, nanomaterials and functional interfaces, electrochemical and optical transduction, microfluidics, bioenergetics, theoretical modelling, wearable and implantable biosensors, smartphone-based and paper-based devices, point-of-care testing, and applications in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and food safety.

A special focus will be placed on emerging trends that are reshaping the field, including artificial intelligence and machine learning for sensor design, signal processing, and data analysis, as well as the integration of advanced materials and miniaturized platforms to improve sensitivity, selectivity, and practical usability.

The symposium will bring together young researchers and internationally recognized experts through plenary, keynote, invited, oral, and poster presentations. As in previous editions, EBS-6 will strongly support early-career scientists and encourage interdisciplinary discussions, new collaborations, and the development of fresh research ideas.

We are delighted to host EBS-6 in Cluj-Napoca, in the heart of Transylvania. Cluj-Napoca is one of Romania’s most dynamic academic and innovation centres, a city where medieval history, cultural diversity, university life, and a fast-growing technology ecosystem meet. Its Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and modern architecture, lively public squares, and large student community create a welcoming and energetic atmosphere for scientific exchange.
